Man may be described as a collection of molecules. Man has been ingeniously combined into a complex organism, but how are his forms created? Can an organism decide its own actions - does man act rationally, and does he have any freedom? Here, biology builds a bridge between physics' conception of life as consisting of complex dynamic systems and psychology's conception of man as a special being with his own thoughts, conceptions, and experiences. The living organism is the intersection of the physical and mental aspects. It is the meeting place between matter and consciousness. Darwin knew nothing of the DNA-molecule or the genesis of life, but he laid the foundation for our understanding of life as an evolutionary phenomenon.
